The event started around 10:30 am when most of the market people were available. The master of the ceremony was Tayo Olojede. He introduced FMDI to the market people; he also stated the reason why we were in the market. Thereafter, a drama talking about the functions of the heart, causes of heart diseases, symptoms and how to prevent heart diseases was performed by our invited drama group. It was very educative and the market audience obviously enjoyed it. The MC then went on to elaborate more on the points raised in the drama.
The market people were given questionnaires which we helped them to fill after which they went on to check their height, weight and blood pressure. People that were overweight/ obese were given adequate counseling on weight reduction individually while those with high blood pressure were sent to see the doctor. The doctor educated the known hypertensive who stopped their drugs to continue while those who didn’t know before were advised to go to their hospital the following day. However, those with very high blood pressures were given prescription for tab Lexotan and those with extremely high blood pressures were given Lexotan at the venue of the outreach and were told to sleep immediately. The event ended around 2:00 pm.
All those with high blood pressure were asked to come in 14 days time for a follow-up visit to ensure they have gone to see their doctors in their various hospitals.
